JMIR Publications Accessibility Statement
Our Commitment to Accessibility
At JMIR Publications, we are dedicated to ensuring that our journals, research content, and web platforms are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. We believe that to realize our vision of a world where people are empowered by health research and technology to make effective and informed decisions, access must be available to all.
To guide our accessibility work, we’ve partnered with Accessible Web, a team of experts in digital accessibility. Together, we are working to remove barriers and work towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA. This commitment supports our efforts to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III.
What We're Doing
Automated Scanning: Regularly scanning our website for accessibility issues that can be detected automatically, then working to remediate those issues when found.
Third Party Audits: Contracting Accessible Web to perform manual audits against WCAG 2.2 AA on a sample of templates from jmirpublications.com, accounts.jmir.pub, jmir.org, jmirx.org, then working to remediate issues that are discovered through those audits.
Audits were completed in mid-November, 2025.
We aim to address barriers identified through these audits throughout 2026.
Building a new jmirpublications.com website with improved accessibility
User Feedback: Making updates and improvements based on user feedback.
Employment Practices: Committing to fair and accessible employment practices by actively reviewing, updating, and providing accommodations throughout the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and tenure process for employees with disabilities.
Accessible Formats and Communication Supports
Upon request, JMIR will provide, or will arrange for the provision of accessible formats and communication support for persons with disabilities in a timely manner that considers the person’s accessibility needs due to disability.
JMIR will consult with the person making the request in determining the suitability of an accessible format or communication support.
